POOL DIRECTOr Certification Course

The NJPMA will be hosting a Pool Director Certification course. The one-day in-person instruction course and the online Red Cross Lifeguard Management course are APPROVED programs per the New Jersey Department of Health. It meets the state’s requirement for pools larger than 2,000 square feet to have a designated adult supervisor possessing the pool director training certification.

In New Jersey, certification requires two separate classes: the online Lifeguard Management program conducted by the American Red Cross and the Pool Director Certification conducted by the NJPMA.

The course prepares aquatic professionals to effectively manage lifeguards and help keep patrons, staff, and facilities safe. The certification is valid for two (2) years.

Topics covered include general pool knowledge, filtration and pool requirements, water chemistry and testing, interpretation of the New Jersey Public Recreational Bathing Code (PRB NJAC 8:26), supervision and staff training, and injury and drowning prevention.

To be fully certified under New Jersey State guidelines, all participants must complete the online American Red Cross Lifeguard Management course prior to attending the in-person portion of the NJPMA Pool Director class.
