LIFEGUARD INSTRUCTOR COURSE

REGISTRATION and TUITION INFORMATION:
This intensive 1 1/2 -week course for Lifeguard Instructor candidates is by advance registration only. In order to participate, registration forms and course tuition of $250.00 for members and $300.00 for non-members must be received by Al Taliaferro on or before 4:00 p.m. Friday June 17th, 2011. Any registration after the 17th will be subject to a $25.00 late fee. Tuition includes all books and materials, plus the mandatory Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT) course, if needed. You can check if your facility is a member by checking the www.njpma.org website.
PURPOSE:
To train instructor candidates to teach basic-level Lifeguarding, Waterfront Lifeguarding, and Shallow Water Attendant (all including first aid), Lifeguard Management, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Administering Emergency Oxygen, Bloodborne Pathogens Training: Preventing Disease Transmission and Basic Water Rescue courses. Instructor candidates also will become familiar with Guard Start: Lifeguarding Tomorrow and the Water Safety presentations.
PREREQUISITES:
· Be at least 17 years of age on or before the last scheduled day of the instructor course.
· Fundamentals of Instructor Training Certificate (will be taught to those who need it).
· Successfully complete the precourse session. This includes passing the precourse written exam with a score of 80 percent or higher for each of the three sections and demonstrating competency in the precourse skills scenarios evaluation.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
· Successfully complete the precourse session. Attend and actively participate in all course sessions.
· Successfully complete class activities, including the required practice-teaching assignments.
· Complete the Bloodborne Pathogens Training: Preventing Disease Transmission Instructor Self-Study/Pre-Test.
· Score at least 80 percent on the basic-level Administering Emergency Oxygen final written exam.
· Score at least 80 percent on the Lifeguarding Instructor Course final written exam.

ATTENDANCE POLICY:
Candidates are expected to attend all classes. The course is a week and a half (Weekdays only) long. There will be no exceptions. There will be NO REFUNDS for candidates who dropout once the actual class begins. Course materials will be distributed after successful completion or the pre-test.
